From a 1996 NYC Photo Studio to a Global Digital Surface Library

 Heritage
Surface Studio NYC was founded in 1996 in New York City as a trusted resource for commercial photographers, brands, and creative teams. For three decades, we have crafted handmade surfaces used in high-end photo shoots, advertising campaigns, and editorial productions.

Our materials are known for their authenticity, depth, and tactile quality — the kind of surfaces that look and feel real on camera, because they are real.

The Challenge We Solved

Not every creative team can travel to our NYC studio. Many brands work remotely, across time zones, or on fast-moving production schedules that don’t allow for custom builds, location shoots, or reshoots.

We saw a growing need for realistic, studio-quality surfaces that teams could access anywhere in the world — without needing to be physically in New York.

That challenge led to the creation of Surface Studio Digital Assets.

Our Solution
Surface Studio Digital Assets brings our handmade materials into a digital format that works seamlessly in modern creative workflows.

Every surface in our library is:
*Created from real, physical materials
*Shot in a professional commercial studio
*Optimized for compositing, retouching, and background replacement
*Designed for consistency across campaigns

This means creative teams can achieve studio-level realism without the time, cost, or logistics of building physical sets.

Why It Matters
SSDA was built for professionals who care about quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Using our surfaces helps teams:

*Save production time
*Reduce the need for physical builds
*Lower overall production costs
*Maintain realistic, high-end visual results
*Create repeatable assets across multiple projects

SSDA is not a generic texture library — it is a digital extension of a working NYC photo studio.
